Zimbabwe officials seek tourist who killed Cecil, a famous African lion



Authorities in Zimbabwe are looking for a tourist who came to the country to kill Cecil, one of Africa’s most famous lions, after paying a safari owner $55,000 for the opportunity.

The hunter, who officials believed travelled from Spain, reportedly lured the 13-year-old lion out of a national park with food and then shot it with a crossbow, according to CNN.

Cecil, who was also believed to be a part of a research project at Oxford University, didn’t die until 40 hours later, when he was shot with a rifle. He was stripped of his skin and decapitated, which the hunter meant to take back to Spain. Both Cecil’s head and skin have been confiscated and are being processed for evidence. Read more…
